Start with one good step

A calm route from first idea to a reflective, well-bounded group session.

Keep the first step modest

A local half-day with a clear purpose is a strong beginning. Start with participant needs, organisational policy and a route that has simple alternatives. The responsible adult should hold the risk assessment, emergency plan and necessary confidential information offline.

A simple planning sequence

  1. Ask privately about access, communication and support needs.
  2. Choose a route with reliable boundaries, shelter and turnaround points.
  3. Check forecast, access information, transport and daylight.
  4. Agree roles, group communication and challenge-by-choice.
  5. Brief, account for the group and use planned decision points.
  6. Finish with reflection and update the next plan.
